Persona
Saanvi Patel is NaturFlourish’s Information Technology Manager. Personally recruited by Sam Pinoak to modernise the company’s technology capability, she quickly earns the respect of colleagues through her technical competence, integrity and calm professionalism. Thoughtful, observant and quietly confident, Saanvi believes technology exists to enable people rather than control them. She rarely seeks the spotlight, preferring to let the quality of her work and the success of her team speak for themselves.
Narrative Role
Saanvi Patel is NaturFlourish’s Information Technology Manager. Intelligent, technically accomplished and quietly confident, she represents the perspective of an experienced IT professional who has spent years solving organisational problems through technology.
Her introduction to Bruno’s Business Capability Model is enthusiastic, as she immediately recognises its potential for application and data-integrity overlays. However, when Bruno introduces the Common Data Model, she asks the obvious and entirely legitimate question: “We already have physical database schemas—why do we need another model?” Her challenge becomes one of the defining teaching moments of the book.
Rather than accepting Bruno’s explanation on authority, Saanvi works through the reasoning until she understands the distinction between system-specific database structures and a business-owned Common Data Model. By the end of the discussion, she had become one of its strongest advocates, recognising that the CDM belongs to the business, not to IT, and should be owned by the organisation’s data stewards.
Her later conversations with Mary deepen this transformation. Reading the Guidelines, she recognises that many of the data integrity problems she has spent her career addressing were symptoms of the Old Paradigm—continually patching technology instead of strengthening organisational capability. She comes to see technology as an enabler of adaptive capacity rather than its source.
