Responsible care for a system, capability, relationship, or shared future over time. Stewardship is the practice of caring for something that matters beyond immediate use or short-term gain.
It involves protecting, maintaining, improving, and wisely using resources, capabilities, relationships, knowledge, and systems so they remain healthy and valuable over time.
In adaptive organisations, stewardship connects authority with responsibility. It asks people to consider not only what they can decide or control, but what they are entrusted to sustain, improve, and pass on.
Effective stewardship strengthens trust, accountability, organisational coherence, and the capacity to create value for current and future stakeholders.
