Organisational Coherence
The condition in which purpose, capability, work, information, systems, decisions, measures, accountability, and consequences align sufficiently for the organisation to act as a whole.
Organisational Coherence exists when the parts of an organisation work together to support a shared purpose and effective action.
It is not the same as uniformity or central control. Coherence allows different teams, functions, systems, and practices to remain locally responsive while still contributing to the whole.
In coherent organisations, strategy is connected to capability, capability to work, work is supported by information and systems, decisions are governed by clear accountability, and consequences are used for learning.
When coherence is weak, organisations fragment into silos, duplicate effort, face conflicting priorities, make inconsistent decisions, and use disconnected measures.
Organisational Coherence strengthens trust, adaptability, learning, and the ability to act with purpose under changing conditions.
